Happy Birthday, Angel

     Bright - adj.
- Radiating or reflecting light. Luminous. Shining.

- Vivid or brilliant

- Quick-witted or intelligent

- Clever or witty

Carole Lombard, I must say it again, is and always will be the screwball queen of my heart. Stanwyck may be the Queen and completely stunning in screwballs, but the real title only belongs to Carole. I was thinking this morning about what I might write for Carole's birthday, having realized much to late that her birthday was actually upon us, and suddenly the word bright popped into my head. That honestly must be one of the most accurate words that has ever randomly thrown itself at my head.
For one thing, she's so obviously intelligent, it's one of my favorite things about her, and that definition is really what associated itself with the word bright in my mind this morn. Then of course she glowed [no, absolutely beamed] off screen. She was so full of life and had that oh-so-perfectly-wicked sense of humor. She shone on screen too, though. I mean, she must have been one of the loveliest creatures God ever did create and she had such beautiful comedic timing.
Thanks to film we'll always have Carole - and her smile and her voice and her pretty face. We'll always have Godfrey and the shower, and we'll always have Maria Tura. We'll always have our profane angel. We'll always have Carole.

Happy Birthday You Beautiful Angel, You.
(October 6, 1908 - January 16, 1942)

The sun above is shining -
Bright days just for you.
Silver lining.
Reflected on your golden curl.
 Glowing without a cue,
Angel girl.
Our hearts beat for you all the while,
Like they'll always do.
You smile.
Your life - but half - was lived in full -
Oh how we love you -
Our Carole.

Until Later On~

P.S. The poetry [Our Carole] is courtesy of my brain, so don't go out and steal it or anything, if you get me.

  1. Oh, Nat. What more can I say to you at this point? I'm not a crier, but this put me in the verge of tears. Carole was a true angel. I'm so glad you wrote this.

  2. Wonderful! You put into words what I can only feel with emotions for her. LOVED this line of the poem:

"Your life - but half - was lived in full "

So true. I feel that she lived every single second of her life to the fullest. What a woman, and she is greatly missed.
