That's Bailey and Me: #1

Hello Everyone!

After having Bailey guest post for me during the Great Recasting I decided that I ought to make Bailey's appearance a frequent thing. Therefore I asked her if she would be willing to do a monthly, sort of internet conversation with me, and this is the result. The original was a bit long so I've split it in half and will be posting the remainder next week. A few things that might help you understand some of the things we say: 1) Bailey hates Mr. Gable. 2) I call her Miss Jones, she calls me Miss Ray. Those aren't our real names and, yes, it's super random of us.

If this post seems kind of all over the place, that's because it probably is [and Bailey and I go off on odd rabbit trails and never return, but then I remember there are people reading this so I re-civilize it, but then I randomly say something about Barbara Stanwyck and then Bailey jumps on that bandwagon and then it just gets worse. Not to mention we both hate Katharine Hepburn which is very unpopular of us]. Anyway! What you're getting here is an authentic Bailey-Nat conversation, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Me:  You online now?

Bailey: I am! Just been reading random stuff to pass the time.

Me: K, perfect! So, let's get started! (to differentiate between what I'm saying for
the post should I put the post words in quotation marks or should this be a
whatever-we-say-is-going-in-the-post kind of conversation?)

B: Go with the TCM logo: Uncut and commercial free.  The way it was meant to be.  I think we should try our first one without editing; just include it all.  Or, I guess I mean no quotes and if something needs to be edited, that works.

Me: Okay, so I'm keeping in everything since I said "You online right now?" Okay? I
think I'm going to feel really sorry for my followers when this is all over. I
just hope we make them smile. Anyhow, let's get started. First things first,
you get 50 words to describe yourself. START DESCRIBING. (and I'm just going to
take a moment here to hope you did finish this already since I forewarned you).

B:  Alrighty! Well after much debate over what two words I would use (and then it became one and suddenly it was three and then we were back to one...), here is what I came up with: Bailey/Ms. Jones/Bailey Powell.  15.  Internet social butterfly.  Stubborn.  I take my obsessions and my ships very seriously.  Music.  Theatre.  Swimming.  Band.  Student Leader.  Writing.  History.  Reading.  Stuck in past times.  I love traveling.  I’m on Tumblr way too much.  Love to laugh.  Rosie.  Friends.  Faith.  Family.  Classic Hollywood. That's the best I could come up with, but I bloody well had a hard time getting 50 words out!

Me: Love it. I have to admit the "I spend too much time on Tumblr” thing totally
applies to me. Shall I do one of these 50-word things too or do you want to
move on?

B: That Tumblr one was one that suffered shortening.  Originally I said something about spending an unhealthy amount and much too much time spent on Tumblr.  But fair is fair: your turn!!

Me: I see. Alrighty though, here's mine:  Natalie/Miss Ray/Natalie Taylor. Teen-aged. Hazel-eyed. Patriotic American. There’s a special place in my heart for England.
I’m the girl who reads WWII books. I love airplanes in general. Stanwyckfan
extraordinaire. Forever listening to Vera Lynn. Ann Mitchell wannabe. If it’s
not Old Hollywood it’s Queen Elizabeth II.

Now, I'm going to explain our friendship for the sake of my followers (the ones
who don't know the story already). Bailey and I "met" on Film-Classics. Film-Classics is
a...how do you describe it? It's lots of classic film and lots of cool classic
film lovers. There's a forum and movies and David (the guy who runs it) updates
it all the time. If you've never checked it out I suggest you do so. Anyway,
that's where Bailey and I met and I guess our individual crazy just meshed
nicely and now you have us. Ha! Bailey is one of my favorite people, to be
honest, and she just started her own blog which I'm really excited about. How's that Bailey? Ready for the questions now?

B: Okay, wait.  David deleted our original profiles that we had before the forum, but do you remember that big long conversation we had on Audrey (another FC friend)'s profile? Because I'm pretty sure you were a part of that and that totally boosted my respect for you. But, yeah.  Nat is high on my list of online best friends (but it seems against the law to call her awesome :P).  But, yes!  Continue Miss Ray!

Me: Was the conversation on Audrey's profile about Katharine Hepburn? Was I bashing KateHeps (I feel like I do that a lot)? Okay, today we’re just being really basic. Like, how you got hooked on classics, favorite actress, etc. Question one – How long have you been watching classics? I’ll be at two years this November.

B: It might have been...And you're not alone.  I feel like I do that a good deal as well! Basic, basic, basic.  My family follows correct Christmas tradition and watches It's a Wonderful Life every year around Christmas and White Christmas on Christmas Eve.  I guess we started that when I was really young.  However, I never took much notice of everything until Christmas 2010, so two years this Christmas.

Me: I thought you liked KateHeps? No? Ohmygosh. [Yes, followers, I am just learning this about one of my besties] You think I would’ve known this before now. Anyway, the next question is: What was your first classic film? We’ve already covered this sort of, but I’m asking anyway.

B: No!  I swear I told you this!  I'm pretty sure you and I stood together on that point against probably Dan and David and Skye.  And then you probably all pitted against me when the topic reached Gable... Besides my Christmas movies and the standard children's films (Snow White, Mary Poppins, etc.) that lucky title belongs to none other than 1940's Third Finger, Left Hand starring Myrna Loy and Melvyn Douglas!  I love that film.

Me: Miss Jones, I’m pretty sure it’s you and me against the whole of classic Hollywood fans. KateHeps is like the uncontested queen, everyone loves her. Anyway… I love Third Finger, Left Hand. That scene in the park when Minnie Loy gets that accent on. Can’t even, it’s so funny. My first classic was “Stowaway” with Shirley Temple and Robert Young. And I think that accounts for my eternal crush on Bob Young. Next question, were you hooked after Third Finger, Left Hand? No going back?

B: Oh poop.  Well I've got...what do I have?  I guess we're doomed. But I love Stowaway!  Shirley is just so cute!...That's like asking you who your favorite actress is!  I saw Minnie acting in that movie and there was no way I was leaving!  It took me maybe a month to see all the Myrna movies available on Film-Classics and back then I was pretty close-minded about who I watched because I was only interested in Myrna movies.  I was hooked!

Me: I’m still close-minded about who I watch. Barbara Stanwyck has pretty much ruined everything – I can’t watch a movie without saying, “dang, missy would’ve done that better”. Haha....

So, there's that. Hope you liked it. Tune in next week.
Or not, depending on how you felt about this.

Until Later On~
