That's Bailey and Me: #1 [and a half]

Hello again dear folk,

If you remember, last week I posted half of a conversation between Bailey and me. I had promised the second half but, of course, forgot. Here is the second part, and, for those of you who forgot, a recap: Uncut and commercial free. We spend too much time on Tumblr. We don't like Kate Heps. Bailey loves Third Finger, Left Hand. I love Barbara Stanwyck.

Me: I’m still close-minded about who I watch. Barbara Stanwyck has pretty much ruined everything – I can’t watch a movie without saying, “dang, missy would’ve done that better”. Haha. Question number four is: Favorite thing about classic film?

B: I getcha!  I'm still slightly close-minded about new stars.  Case in point: I still have not watched Gilda, mainly because I have never seen a Rita Hayworth movie. I think I have to go with the cleanliness of it all.  I would watch modern movies with my parents/family and even making out on-screen made me uneasy sitting there with my parents.  So I like that at least I don't have to worry about that or an unexpected sex scene if I decide to let my parents watch a classic with me.  And even now, I like a modern show called Psych and I find myself cringing at some of the things they show.  The lack of so many clearly sexual things in classics just gives me peace of mind.  It's just like live-action Disney films, only much more hidden double entendres.  ;)

Me: Go. Watch. Gilda. Now. Anyway, that’s what I was going to say too. I love that I can pretty much watch whatever the heck I want without having to check the rating. I also love the slang. Heehee. And the next question: Favorite actress? Favorite movie starring her?

B: I will!  Someday.  Promise.  I know it's a good film.  But I can't find the willpower (or the right word) to. I love the slang!  It's so hep!  I really would be fine if everyone went around saying, "Gee, that's swell!"... Natalie Ray, who is your favorite actress?  My favorite actress is dear Myrna Adele Williams, more commonly known as Myrna "Minnie" Loy, affectionately known as Mama Minnie or just Mom.  And my favorite movie, despite how awesome The Thin Mans are and how much I loved Wings in the Dark, is 1939's The Rains Came also with Tyrone Power.

Me: Bailey, this is why we’re friends, I mean, “Mama Minnie” you better know it! I’ve never seen The Rains Came. Someone told me Ty Power looked hot in a turban, I don’t know whether that was supposed to scare me away or make me watch it… either way I’ve yet to see it. Haha, Bailey, really though, I think everyone knows who my favorite actress is. That’s Barbara Stanwyck for you new folks. And, Bailey, favorite actor and movie starring him?

B: Mama Minnie.  Doesn't that just roll off your tongue?  Nay.  It bounces. Does he?  To be honest, I was more concerned with when Myrna was going to be on the screen.  I think it's on YouTube somewhere and I know Netflix has it for streaming.  I went ahead and bought it, though.  <33333 Psst, Nat: I think from the size of your Missy tag and the fact that your Month in Review picture has Missy in it and you just recast Missy, it'd be pretty hard for anyone new not to know that!  ;)  I love your devotion to her!  You give everyone an expectation to live up to with their obsessions. Favorite actor, Cary Grant (also my Classic Hollywood crush)!  And I think for favorite film I'd have to go with His Girl Friday.  The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, Wings in the Dark, Mr. Blandings, and all the others I've seen (sans Bringing Up Baby--there's that Hepburn problem again...) are a hoot and a half, but His Girl Friday takes the cake!

Me: This is post is getting so long. Oh my gosh. See if I care. I am thoroughly enjoying this. Haha! My devotion to the Stanwyck is…I don’t even know, but people always compliment me on it. Cary Grant - definitely starting to like him sad as it is. His Girl Friday is an amazing movie. And I can’t pick a favorite actor anymore - I think it’s a tie between Ray Milland, James Stewart, Robert Taylor, and Gary Cooper. I have a couple more questions, but I think I’ll save them for another time. Thanks for doing this with me Bailey.

B: Ha!  I am enjoying this too much! Natalie, my current life's mission is to figure out a word to describe your devotion and then find someone with the same level of devotion.  And do you know what your life's mission is?  You guessed it!  Writing me that full Stany bio!  How else will I find out what happened in her life?  Apparently Wikipedia isn't a credible source, so I don't know a thing because what I've read off Wiki is a lie! This, ladies and gentlemen, is improvement - take a piece of cake, Nat - good for you for warming up to my Cary!  :D
And whoa.  I think you've gained 3 favorites between now and the last time I asked you about this after you declared Ray your new favorite over the Jimster.  :O Okay, this was fun!  But thanks, I was gettin' kind of tired.  I'll be waiting for those questions!  Thanks for having me Miss Ray!

Until Later On~

Hope you guys enjoyed that! Thanks millions to Bailey for doing this with me. Let me know if you all liked it so I can decide how often we'll have Bailey O. back.

  1. Why is it sad that you're starting to like Cary Grant? Haha! You two are great!

    1. I have always disliked Cary Grant. That's the only reason it's sad. Now everyone gets to say: "I KNEW IT! I KNEW YOU'D TURN SOMEDAY!"
