Hello Everyone!
Here's my review of the movies I watched last month. Now wondering, do you guys enjoy these posts? Asking on account of because if you don't I'll stop doing them. No need to waste time doing things you all dislike!
Number of Movies Seen: 21 in 30 Days. That makes only nine days on which I did not watch a movie.
3 Favorite Movies: High Society (1956), The Broadway Melody of 1938 (1937), and The Crowd Roars (1938). Two Bob Taylor movies there, no shame. Also note-worthy is the fact that I finally watched Gone with the Wind. Yippee!
Least Favorite Movie: Lady of the Tropics (1939). Hedy Lamarr and Bob Taylor must be one of the best looking couples ever, but this was not a good movie. *SPOILER* At the end I was totally horrified. I mean, Hedy Lamarr, just shot herself *END SPOILER*. It was weird in general and Bob's character really got pulled through the ringer. Ho hum.
Movie I Will Recommend to Everyone: Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948). This is the part where I admit that I may be coming to the dark side where the people who like Cary Grant live. Shocking isn't it? Review of this should be up next month, The Country Girl (1954) should be reviewed before too long.
Favorite Leads: Robert Taylor and Eleanor Powell. They were too cute for words.
A New-To-Me Actress Worth Noting: Maureen O'Hara. I've seen a few of her movies, but I really need to see more! I think I've only seen Miracle on 34th Street and The Quiet Man.
A New-To-Me Actor Worth Noting: Joseph Cotten. I've heard a lot of people talk about what a great actor he is, but I've only seen a few of his too! This is me still learning about Classic Hollywood - I don't think I could ever know enough, though.
Most Watched Actress: Grace Kelly (five movies)
Most Watched Actor: Tie: Ray Milland/Robert Taylor (four movies each)
Until Later On~
P.S. Definitely did not just post three pics of Bob Taylor, no way. And I'm definitely not going through a phase of Bob-Obsession.

Mr Blanding Builds His Dream House is definitely worth watching - Cary and Myrna are wonderful together. Also, I love Joseph Cotten as well, he is soo underappreciated. He is great in Niagara with Marilyn and Citizen Kane.
ReplyDeleteI really liked Mr. Blandings. Have actually watched it more than once now! Looking forward to seeing more of Mr. Cotten.
DeleteYour reviews are great - keep them coming! "The Broadway Melody of 1938" is my favorite Eleanor Powell movie."Lady of the Tropics" could've used a better script. They were trying to reference too many things in that film - Madame Butterfly is referenced by the ending - and really made a mess of it. Hedy did NOT look eurasian at all, so it was hard to see what the big deal was in the plot. Joseph Cotten - under-appreciated because of his subtle performances. His films are definitely worth seeing.
ReplyDeleteAww! I'm glad you like them. So, I'll keep them up. Ugh...the ending of LotT, so upsetting...
DeleteFirst, definitel keep doing these, I love them.
ReplyDeleteSecond, and most importantly: MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I knew it wouldn't last, I just knew it! Cary will get to everyone eventually! Let me do that evil laugh one more time: MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! :D
Ooh, and Joseph Cotten is wonderful. Love him. He's a southener like me, though he was from Virginia, and I'm from Georgia. :D
Glad you like them too. :)
DeleteHAHAHAHAAAA!!!! Dang it, it's upsetting but I love Mr. Blandings so.
I love these monthly reviews/recaps! Keep 'em coming!
ReplyDeleteJoe Cotten is great! I (once again) recommend (if ya haven't seen it already) Hers to Hold 1943! I ya have already seen it, sorry. :) Thanks for reminding me about Broadway Melody of 1938!
And i just love that quote "the dark side where the people who like Cary Grant live." LOL!!!!!
Wow, this is great! My monthly recaps are popular! :D
DeleteI'm right in the middle of HtH finishing it ASAP!
And haha, aren't I funny, though? ;)
Don't worry, there is nothing wrong with admitting that you love Cary Grant. Many people don't think they love him and then they watch his movies and they can't help it ! Also, I love Joseph Cotton and would recommend anything you can get your hands on, but make sure you have seen The Third Man many times. Don't quit these posts, I think we all enjoy reading them even if we forget to tell you! Oh, yeah, I love The Country Girl, but I was thinking that a movie with that title starring Bing and Grace was going to be a little more happy-go-lucky. I guess its my fault for not doing a little research. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteHaha. The only problem is that he's been on my "hate" list with both Hepburns for so long it's hard for me. ;) The Third Man, I've heard about that, will make sure to find it. Glad you like the posts too and, yeah, with Bing and Grace you expect High Society, but the fact that something so opposite turned out so well is the swellest thing. You're welcome [although I'm not exactly sure what you're thanking me for!]
DeleteYay! Glad you're recommending "Mr Blandings" - such a fun movie! And Joseph Cotten - one of the best in my opinion. I loved him in "I'll Be Seeing You" with Ginger Rogers, which is a so-so melodrama but his acting in some scenes almost takes your breath away. This is a great post!
ReplyDeleteLoved Mr. Blandings so. And I feel like I've seen IBSY, but I don't remember exactly. Hmmm.... Anyway, glad you liked the post!
