May In Review

So, guys,

Here's this month's review of all the movies I watched (which turned out to be quite a small number, but I'll get to that eventually). Before I start, I wanted to point out that last month's 'review' post was supposed to be about April, not March, which it was only I titled the darned thing wrong, and I wanted to thank you kind folk for not pointing that out and making me feel like an idiot. Anyhoo...now, May:

Number of Movies Seen: 9 in 31 Days - that comes out to around one movie every 3 days, I think. And my explanation for the lack of films-seen is the fact that we had people staying with us for three out of four weeks this month. That's a good excuse, right?

New vs. Re-Watches: All nine were new movies! Even the two Stanwycks I watched this month were new-to-me.

3 Favorite Movies: Now, this is hard because, despite the number of films I watched, most of them were rather fantastic. Favorite three, though, would have to be: Gilda (1946), Trooper Hook (1957), and The Country Girl (1954). Honorable Mention: Three Smart Girls (1936).

Least Favorite Movie: The Secret Bride (1934). Sad, I know, that my least favorite was a Missy movie, but what can I say? It was weird. Even Stany seemed somewhat out of her element in that one.

Movie I Will Recommend to Everyone: The Country Girl (1954). Grace Kelly deserved that Oscar. Everyone deserved an Oscar. Bing Crosby deserved an Oscar. It really was such a good movie. Note: I'm planning to review this. Note: I'm still working on that review of The Lost Weekend (1945)

Favorite Leads: Actually, a lot of couples I liked this month, but let's say William Holden and Grace Kelly.

A New-To-Me Actress Worth Noting: Miriam Hopkins. I didn't like her at the beginning of the movie I saw with her in it, but by the end I had decided she was pretty darned cute.

A New-To-Me Actor Worth Noting: William Holden. Turns out, I've seen like six of his movies, but I always watch them because someone else is in them that I want to see and for that reason I forget he was even in them at all and I forget that it was another movie of his I can add to the list of his movies I've seen. Did that make sense? No? Basically: I like Bill Holden.

Most Watched Actress: Tie: Barbara Stanwyck/Rita Hayworth (Two Movies Each)

Most Watched Actor: Tie: Ray Milland/Glenn Ford (Two Movies Each)

Until Later On~

  1. Natalie,

I agree "The Secret Bride" wasn't that good. It seemed like Missy was under utilized in the film, and the writing wasn't good enough to build any suspense. "Trooper Hook" was excellent - one of my all-time favorite Stanwyck westerns.

I'll have to check out some of the others you mentioned.
