Today's awesome person was supposed to have been James Cagney all by himself, but I have trouble finding pictures of actors alone unless I really like them. Therefore, I've resorted in the past to posting photos of the actor I'm supposed to be posting and a favorite actress. In this case, James Cagney and Joan Blondell (but they are actually really cute so I'm not sorry!):
I have actually never seen one of James Cagney's movies. I saw part of "Blonde Crazy", but I can't remember finishing it.
His hair was a Van Gogh, Renoir, Titian red with… gold waving
through. His eyes were delft blue, with the longest, thickest lashes I
have ever seen. He blinked his eyes at me, and since I had never seen a
blink like that before, I instantaneously fell in love. --Joan Blondell
Going to a Gone with the Wind party in 1939.
James Cagney with a moustache. I can't decide whether I really like it or really hate it...it's altogether too interesting, honestly.

Ooh, you've got see a James Cagney picture! I remember thinking that I wouldn't like him the first time I saw a picture of his, but to my complete shock I did. He was truly magnificent.
ReplyDeleteI love the third picture. He looked good with a beard in my opinion, and I agree with you on the moustache; it's very interesting.
I guess I'll try to get my hands on one! :) I hear he's good.
DeleteYikes - never seen a Cagney film! He is one of my top 2 favorite actors and the reason I got seduced by classic cinema.I can't think of a movie star of any era that had his charm & charisma. And Joan- she was his perfect female co-star. She could give as good as she got and was just one swell dame. Those 1930s Warner Brothers stars were just out of this world.
ReplyDeleteOkay! Okay! I'll find one! I'll find one! Haha. :D And Blondie's the best, for sure, I love her.
DeleteI've seen one Cagney film, The Public Enemy for my Jean Harlow Retrospective and liked it. I need to see a Joan Blondell movie!
ReplyDeleteBlondie...I love "Night Nurse" (1931). She's plays Barbara Stanwyck's best friend and is just really perfect. The movie isn't the best, but I enjoy it thoroughly. Clark Gable plays an evil chauffeur, and it's so pre-code, too. :)
DeleteI love Joan Blondell and James Cagney! Thanks for featuring both of them. I know what you mean about the moustache...
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them! :D
DeleteYa need to see Here Comes the Navy, The Roaring Twenties, Yankee Doodle Dandy, The Strawberry Blonde and White Heat (which starts with a train robbery). :D
ReplyDeleteOh! Thanks for the suggestions, Dan!
DeleteI Should have also said that I love your writing and take on things, and this post is no exception. :)
ReplyDeleteAwww... *blush* Thanks, Dan!
DeleteNatalie,
ReplyDeleteI can't connect to the FilmClassics blog. Is something wrong there? I don't have the moderators' email to ask them. Do you? If yes, could you find out what's going on? I checked David's Twitter account, but nothing is on there about a problem.
OK, it's up again. Looks like David was moving some posts into archives and deleting the really old posts.
