Valentines Day Meme

Hello!

This may sound weird, but I love being back on my blog. It's really ridiculous how happy writing makes me... And, guess what! I finally finished an "about me" thing for my blog. I've been trying to think of something forever and I think I've finally got something that I can make stick.

Anyway, in honor of Valentines day, Meredith at Forever Classics made a Valentines Day Meme! Here are the questions and my answers in italics:

1. What is your favorite romantic comedy?
The Lady Eve (1941). My favorite movie in general.

 2. What is your favorite romantic drama?
California (1947).

3. Worst romance film you've seen?
You know what? I really don’t like Algiers (1938).

4. How do you feel about the majority of romantic films being labeled "chick flicks"?
Ridiculous. You don't have to be a chick to like romance. Two guy-friends who love Casablanca instantly come to mind.
5. Favorite on-screen couple?
Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, of course.

6. Favorite off-screen couple?
Bob and Missy

7. Best kiss in a movie?
The many kisses at the end of The Lady Eve. “I’m married.”… “but, Darling, so am I!”
8. Favorite romantic scene?
The moonlit deck scene in The Lady Eve when Hopsie tries to explain to Jean how he feels about her. Most. Beautiful. Scene. Ever.
9. Who are 2 film characters you wished had gotten together, but never did?
Barbara Stanwyck and Herbert Marshall’s characters in “Always Goodbye”. IT’S SO SAD.
10. Two actors you think would have great chemistry, but have never done a film together?
Jimmy and Missy. My favorites. And honestly, if they were in a movie together I wouldn’t care if they had no chemistry, a sucker of a plot, and the worst script ever.
I WOULD BE HAPPY.
11. Favorite romantic song in a film (doesn't have to be from a musical)?
“Night and Day” from The Gay Divorcee (1934).
12. Best score from a romance film?
Am I allowed to say that I love the score from “The Lady Eve” after using TLE for so many answers? Because I do love it.

13. Most romantic film quote?
At the end of California Ray Milland is leaving to serve a couple of years in prison for deserting the army and he asks Missy what she’ll be doing while he’s gone, she replies something to the effect of “I’ll be here. Waiting for you”. *Heart. Melting.*

14.  A film you'd recommend to watch on Valentine's Day?
The Lady Eve (1941), but seeing as how I firmly believe that it is the best movie ever, I also recommend it 24/7.

Until Later On~

  1. Natalie, I agree that Stanwyck and James Stewart would've made an ideal screen couple. Although Barbara did quite well in collecting top leading men, I would also have loved seeing her with Cary Grant, Spencer Tracy, Robert Mitchum, Richard Widmark, Tyrone Power and, in a different vein, Marlon Brando and Montgomery Clift. And wouldn't it have been marvelous fun to see her dance with Fred Astaire?? Roger

    1. Roger, Missy did do a nice job of getting good leading men; but I would also have loved to see her with Spencer Tracy or Fred Astaire. Cary Grant on the other hand...I am glad to live without ever seeing her fall in love with him on-screen. LOL. Thanks for your comment.

  2. Thank you for doing the meme! I don't care for Algiers, either.

    1. You're welcome! I was going to post a link on your blog, but you already saw it, so that's good! Glad I'm not the only one who dislikes Algiers - I heard people comparing it to Casablanca...

  5. Natalie,

Can you access your FilmClassics messages? If not, I just wanted to let you know I found "Crime of Passion" (1957) online here:

I know it had been on your list of Stanwyck films you hadn't seen yet. If you can't watch it now, you could bookmark it for when you get back.

    1. Cheryl,

I think I can access them. I normally get email notifications if someone messages me, but I haven't got any lately.
Thanks for the link though! I finally saw "There's Always Tomorrow" and I liked it, except for the ending...

  6. I liked your answers. I think I would like to see Cary Grant and Barbara Stanwyck in a screwball comedy. I don't know if they ever made anything together but it would've been great if they did.
And I was really surprised with your about me section. After reading your blog for a while, I was sure you were in your early to mid-twenties. Don't know why.

    1. Ah! Glad you liked 'em! No, Babs and Cary never made anything together, thank God. ;) But the common belief is that they would've been great.
Haha! Mid to early-twenties!? Yippee! I think that insinuates that I DO NOT write like a 12-year-old! No offense to 12-year-olds, of course; but knowing that my writing has fooled two people into thinking I was older makes me extra-happy. ;)
      Thanks for your comment!
